// five pads, five tones, one sequence that only gets longer

Tone Memory

Five pads, each with its own synthesized tone, built live in this tab from a plain oscillator — no samples anywhere. Press Start and it plays a one-note sequence at you. Repeat it. Get it right and it plays the same sequence again with one more note tacked on the end. Get it wrong once and the run is over, immediately, no partial credit. This is Simon, structurally, with the plastic dome replaced by a browser tab.

Press Start to begin. Watch the sequence, then repeat it.

Tab to a pad and press Enter / Space to play it. During your turn you can also press 15, left to right.

What this actually is: a memory test with a rhythm section. There's no strategy and no second playback — you get exactly one look at each round, same as the toy this is standing in for. The tones are five plain sine waves tuned to a pentatonic scale, so the wrong-pad buzz actually sounds wrong by comparison, on purpose. Everything runs live in this tab; nothing you play is ever sent anywhere. Sound starts only after you press Start, and the mute button actually stops it, not just quiets it. One localStorage key (sandbag.tonememory.v1) remembers your best round and how many times you've put yourself through this — nothing about the sequences themselves.

The button below wipes your best round and your total games played back to zero, on this device only, and ends whatever run is in progress.
